HOW TO STOP YOUR NETWORK ADAPTER FROM WAKING UP YOUR PC

As you may know, there are lots of things going behind the scenes on a computer, that’s why it may be difficult to know which application that might be waking up your PC. While, one of the battery sucker features that kills your Laptop faster especially when is on battery usage mode is  network adapter or wireless adapter.

However, preventing your network from waking up your PC can also save your battery life and also prevent your PC from issues like malware and spyware, Can also help the network adapter itself from overheating.  Well, I will show you how to prevent your network from waking up your computer in Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

Note: This step by step guides was written using Windows 8.1. However, the steps work for Windows 7 and Windows 8 PCs, too.

 

Now, You need to open the Device Management menu. In other to do that, Just  Follow the below steps.

 

Step 1: Use the Windows keyboard shortcut “Windows Key + R” to open the Run command.

Now, Type in the following:

                       devmgmt.msc

 

 

Step 2: After you have successfully open Device Management.

 

 

Step 3: Now, Scroll down to Network adapters and widely the list.

 

Step 4: Right-click on your active network adapter and click “Properties.

 

Step 5: This’ll open the properties for your network adapter.

 

If your PC model runs multiple network adapters, Then you will have to do this for each of the adapters. Some laptops won’t allow you to change the setting, again depending on the setup, because of power plans and hibernation settings.

 

Most times, your computer won’t let the network adapter wake the PC. Until you check the settings for each one, there’s no way to know.  You’ll always have some sort of acknowledgement about the network adapter waking the PC, so you’ll always learn one way or another if this is the case through these steps.

 

Step 6: Now, click on “Power Management.”

 

For this example, I will open the wireless adapter properties on my laptop. By default, it can’t wake my PC during use, so I’m all set there and don’t need to do anything further which makes this easy on my laptop.

If the “Allow this device to wake the computer” is checked for any network adapter on your PC, and you can change it, uncheck the box.

 

Step 7: Then, click “OK” to save the changes.

After you are done with the settings above, You may need to restart your PC in other to make this effective. You won’t need to worry about your network adapter being able to wake your PC when it’s sleeping or in hibernation mode.

 

 

Conclusion

When you’re running on batteries, Applying these settings in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 for your network adapter can help  you server more power and also makes you have enough power to run with your batteries

For those you using desktop computer, Applying the above settings may depends on the power plans you are using and how you use the sleep and hibernate functions, it can be useful in other ways, too.  If you don’t use your network adapter at all, disabling it entirely is the way to go, because this prevents any power from going to that part of the computer.

 

This also help keep the network adapter in working condition, too. Disabling the network adapter, in addition to ensuring it doesn’t wake a PC, can be beneficial for the overall upkeep of your computer over time.
